Dwelling Ventilation

Today one is conscious of the meaning of room air quality for the health of humans. Room air quality directly affects the well-being of humans.

The air quality additionally has influence on the preservation of the building structure and the stored material in cellars and undrground storage.

From various investigations 87 % of womaen are professional housewives with 56 % of their daily time in their dwellings. The period spent there shows that at least the minimum requirements for indoor climate and air quality should be fulfilled. By indoor climate we mean the following: temperature (air, walls) humidity, air speed and room air quality (air admixtures, composition, pollution with pollutants). Noise disturbance from outside should also be considered.

OCHSNER indoor climate

For the totally optimal indoor climate more than just the heating and ventilation should be considered. OCHSNER can offer total designs and complete systems for the creation of the optimal indoor climate while simultaneously minimization the operation cost and the air pollution. Total wellbeing requires:

  • Low-temperature radiant heat
  • If requested a reversable Heat Pump for heating and cooling
  • Controlled dwelling ventilation with heat recovery for hot water generation. Optional supply air warming with heater coils

The reasons for bad air

Emissions in dwellings are caused by:

  • Smell-, CO2 and water vapour release by humans
  • Water vapor from cooking, showers or bathing
  • Tobacco smoke
  • Finery and detergent, spray, cosmetics
  • Evaporation with adhesives, colors, lacquers, building materials, furniture, carpets and textiles
  • House dust from textiles and mechanisms
  • Mites and spores
  • Domestic animals

These pollutants come concentrated in interiors and can be removed only by the appropriate exchange with fresh air.

For buildings with windows of older design which had relatively large permeability gap, an appropriate change of air was ensured of up to one per hour - i.e. the entire air volume of the dwelling was once exchanged in one hour. With more modern houses with joint-close thermic protection and energy saving lip seals usually only a 0,2-times per hour air exchange is obtained. The necessary air exchange (according to building code at least 0,5-times) is not ensured anymore unless with controlled dwelling ventilation.

The consequences of the lack of appropriate air-exchange are numerous:

  • Health damage
  • Strong multiplying of micro organisms and house dust mites
  • Allergies
  • Headache
  • Destruction of building structure and furniture

Not only for hygenic reasons, but also as a contribution to energy saving and pollution control the use of controlled air exchange with heat recovery is sensible.

The solution

  • Multi-functional Europa 313 as exhaust air heat pump for hot water generation
  • Europa Mini IWP for hot water generation or heating support via buffer tank or supply air warming with heater coils

Multifunctional Europa 313

Control the dwelling ventilation with the exhaust air Heat Pump.

  • Type Europa 313
  • Installed in the utility area with the Heating Heat Pump
  • It can act as heat recovery from the exhaust air which can be used for heating water
  • Additional benefits include use for controlled dwelling ventilation (exhaust air). Removal of loaded, damp air from wet areas (bath, WC, kitchen). Fresh air is taken to the rooms through adjustable wall valves in the living room and/or staircase area. It is also recommended to preheat (wintertime) or cool (summertime) by an earth pipe.
  • The integrated Tiptronic E controller, which is also usable with outside air below 0 °C thanks to a built in defrosting system.

Europa Mini IWP

Also the exhaust air heat pump "Europa Mini IWP" is appropriate for controlled dwelling ventilation. It uses exhaust air for hot water generation or can be used for supporting the heating system over a buffer tank.

The advantages are the same as with the Europa 313 but with the difference, that an external tank is loaded instead of generating hot water in an integrated tank as in the 313.

Another possibility is to use the Europa Mini IWP for supporting the heating system by loading a buffer tank with the hot water of the heat pump. Here are combinations with other heating and hot water systems like solar collectors possible.

If the suplly air should be warmed, this can be done with heater coils.
